These days we can see a growing interest in city logistics. Agglomerations struggle with increasing transport flows which inevitably leads to traffic jams and ultimately to the emergence of road closures. Modern information technologies are of great importance in regulating such flows. Smart cities initiative which addresses numerous issues regarding information, technology, and communication in urban planning is related to these technologies. This concept has become increasingly popular among researchers from all over the world. Within the framework of city logistics, various tasks are solved in terms of content, including the problem of traffic regulation. Simulation technologies can serve as an excellent instrument to see how the implementation of intelligent transportation systems resolves this challenge. This article presents the results of applying an algorithm based on simulation of a transport infrastructure object which does not only provide a noticeable road congestion reduction but also a decrease in time spent by passengers in cars during traffic jams. Approximate calculations of socio-economic effects generated by implementation of the developed algorithm confirm the economic feasibility of its application in urban transport systems of megacities.
