CATEGORY Controlling Information technologies in logistics and SCM

 

ABSTRACT

The advanced concept of control, monitoring and management of complex supply chains «Supply Chain Control Tower – SCCT» is considered. The basic terminology is given, the problematics is indicated and the key stages of the evolution of the SCCT concept are analyzed in the direction of increasing the maturity level of projects from version CT 1.0 to version CT
4.0. The shortcomings of earlier versions of the Control Tower (1.0-2.0) are analyzed. The article describes the design methodology of modern SCCT, including ensuring end-to-end visibility of the supply chain, building and exchanging data in a Multi-party Network, synthesis of a digital model – a twin of the physical supply chain; creation of information hubs for reli-
able storage and transmission of information using digital technologies, in particular, the blockchain. Examples of the implementation of the Control Tower 4.0 company One Network are set. The advantages of using advanced versions of Control Tower 4.0 for controlling and adaptive management of complex supply chains using predictive analytics and artificial intelligence are shown.

ABSTRACT

Today the increase in productivity and efficiency of the companies is directly connected with information technology development. Application of modern information technologies in logistics and supply chain management are needed to reduce costs and improve process efficiency. One of the most relevant directions in the field of logistics, in terms of process automation, is the purchasing activity of the companies. In relation to purchases, one of the most perspective technologies is the blockchain technology. Blockchain is a distributed database and the corresponding management system of current distributed database, by means of which the considered technology is implemented. This technology allows automating process of transactions in information systems of the companies by using smart contracts. It is declared, that use of this technology will allow to automate and optimize several processes related to purchases and other directions. However, the novelty of this technology creates some risks connected with the implementation of systems based on blockchain technology and lack of the legislative base. In this way, it is necessary to carry out the blockchain market status assessment and the analysis of risks and further perspectives of applying this technology. The article includes examples of the existing blockchain projects, considers analytical data of research about potential perspectives of technology and systematizes information about the possibility of use blockchain technology in purchasing activity of the companies. The analysis shows areas of purchasing activity where the use of blockchain technology is most justified, what problems need attention and what changes are happening in the blockchain market now.

ABSTRACT

Within the framework of the digital economy development in Russia, one of important areas is “digital logistics/ supply chain”. In the market of freight and passenger traffic the use of digital technologies gives a competitive advantage, therefore their implementation is becoming inevitable for the entire logistics industry. This article considers trends, advantages, prospects and barriers to the implementation of digital technologies in the Russian Federation; the main types of these technologies and their influence on logistics business processes efficiency. A scheme for digital technologies (Big Data, IoT (Internet of Things), Blockchain, Cloud Services, 3D Printing) using in the supply chain are also presented. This paper provides the analysis of digital technologies use impact and a methodology for assessing the relationship with the components of the model of total logistics costs (TLC) in supply chains. 
It should be noted that proposed TLC model does not only include  logistics operations costs, but also the costs associated with complete customer satisfaction.The use of digital technologies in logistics makes it possible to increase efficiency,precision and speed of logistics operations, however it requires significant financial investments, personnel training, accounting long-term physical movement over long distances, problems of customs clearance and terminal handling of goods.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays economic activity of society sees quality changes related to new technologies implementation. Blockchain, artificial intelligence, e-platforms, predictive analytics, Internet of things, autonomous vehicles, robotics, machine learning are no longer only startup objects, but big business sphere of interests.

The object of research is the linear container transportations industry and technologies which accompany the beginning of supply chain new era; the subject is alignment business and IT architectures of the company - the global sea container line capable to provide support for container transportation processes strategic changes, their introduction and evaluation. The strategic alignment method has been developed by University of Twente (Enschede, the Netherlands) and the BiZZdesign company (Enschede, the Netherlands) researchers. This work considers application of this method for the global sea container line enterprise architecture design and the possibility of its application for a company’s digital transformation management.

ABSTRACT

This article examines main influence of the Fourth industrial revolution announced in 2011 and of a lot of new technologies penetrating everyday life on existing processes in supply chain management and on its future development. The article reviews components of intelligent supply chains which are divided into two unequal groups: revolutionary and evolutionary technologies. The former ones are Internet of things, machine learning, 3d printing, blockchain, artificial intelligence and bots -all of which radically change the logic of supply chain work. The second group – evolutionary technologies – is more about successfully developing graphic technologies and functional organization of a workplace. The article mainly focuses on the first group. As a result, the article concludes that all these technologies closely intersect, which forms additional synergic effect of their contact; and that functions and responsibilities of an expert of supply chain management in a company should be thoroughly revised.

ABSTRACT

 Today Blockchain technology is one of the breakthrough innovations that changes modern business and can bring it to a new level. Supply chain management (SCM) is one of the areas where this technology can manifest itself in the best possible light. Blockchain is designed to solve one of the most pressing issues of the SCM – ensuring the necessary level of transparency of the chain for all its participants. Every day, business increasingly faces the problem of counterfeiting, complicated document management or the problem of low-quality raw materials, in particular, in food industry. All these problems are a direct consequence of the lack of transparency required by the various scammers and attackers. Blockchain is a distributed and reliable data storage technology designed to solve the problems mentioned above. In this system, all participants have the same rights and access to information, and the system itself works through smart contracts that provide trust between participants. This paper examines the works of various authors and identifies the benefits of Blockchain technology and its application in SCM. In addition, successful examples of the use of this technology in business will be considered.

ABSTRACT

The article looks at the main tendencies of SCM ideology development worldwide. Basing on the analysis of the reports of the largest analytical and IT companies on the theme under consideration, the article reveals key factors and drivers determining the SCM concept development in the midterm. The best practice of the leading logistic and SCM companies is researched; Gartner Research, in particular, provides a list of Top 25 best international companies using SCM in 2017.

The article analyzes Gartner Research recommendations on implementing the best SCM solutions and technologies in business organizations. SCM challenges and barriers in Russian companies are identified. It is determined that world SCM leaders particularly focus on implementation of digital technologies, such as RFID, Mobile app, Big Data, Cloud Services, IoT, BlockChain, 3DPrinting and others. It is shown that besides SCM digitalization, the leaders pay attention to supply chain segmentation, business client focus, improvement of stability, dynamics and transparency of supply chains.

ABSTRACT

The present stage of economic, scientific and technical development of society is characterized by the comprehensive dynamic quality changes in the activity of human society, leading sometimes to traditional business forms disruption. It does not mean automatic disappearance of the players existing in industries at the present stage. Disruption means that considerable parts of business will change, which will force players either to change in response, or to abandon the market. It means emergence of a huge number of new opportunities for the existing players and new participants.

The object of the research of this article is the industry of sea container transportations, its development and current processes in the industry, the subject is business model change of the companies that are global shipping container lines; and blockchain technology capable of changing business models of all industry participants. The purpose of this work is the analysis of current situation in container shipping, task definition for the companies – industry participants, proposal of the business model for the company - the global shipping container line and the analysis of blockchain technology opportunities in shipping industry.

 Strategic model known as Business Model Canvas is used in this article. According to Business Model Canvas, the description of any business model consists on nine blocks which reflect company actions logic for profit receiving. These nine blocks cover four main spheres of business: interaction with the customer, the offer, infrastructure and company financial efficiency.

The linear container transportations industry is at a maturity stage now; therefore, development strategy and business model change are needed. To solve existing problems in the industry it is necessary to create a uniform data ecosystem which will open new opportunities to coordinate and optimize transportation process participants actions. It is possible to create such an ecosystem using blockchain technology. There is a number of the blockchain technology research projects in linear container transportations industry now, therefore in the nearest future it is highly probable to expect its wide implementation and industry structural changes.

ABSTRACT

Modern world governmental institutions and business environment strive for comprehensive and complex development. Thus, it is becoming more evident that activities of our society require implementing new technologies such as digital economy. Logistics, being a complex and multistage process hugely intervening into modern market relationships, requires constant evolution so that it could bring more efficiency into business and economic processes. IT technologies and Internet have a chance to become one of the sources of such transformations. In particular, implementation of the blockchain technology into logistics may give an impulse to achieve goals set by the government. The article covers such topics, as historical development of logistics, general steps of logistics development, application of blockchain technology, issues associated with implementation of blockchain technology into logistics processes. The main goal of this research is to analyze opportunities for implementation of blockchain technology into logistics in Russia and prospects of further economic and business processes digitalization. Moreover, in the framework of digital economy blockchain technology in logistics can enable the world to reach transparency and security.
