   This issue of the Journal is devoted to the optimization of logistics solutions in the process of supply chain management (SCM). Analysis of international best practices
shows that the leaders among companies continue to realize the following actions:
■ to increase flexibility and to implement strategies to reduce risks and improve the reliability of supply chains;
■ to adapt SC-solutions for complex optimization of customers’ added value;
■ to improve response to customers’ requests, using globally arrayed network structures of supply chains.

   SCM practices of leading companies proved the effectiveness of design and analysis of business on the basis of integrated consideration of the whole added-value chain:
all of its intra- and intersections and places of joining various echelons of the supply chain rather than optimizing local control functions own company should be taken into

   The articles of this issue deal mainly with the problems of analysis, strategic planning and controlling of logistics supply chain. The evaluation of logistics business processes
effectiveness in supply chains via the balanced scorecard (BSC) ideology (the system of key performance indicators (KPI) is analyzed. It is considered the problems of optimizing the configuration of a network structure of the supply chain as well as the methodology for the optimal variants of logistics infrastructure selection.

   The article prepared by the Dean of the Faculty of Logistics in National Research University «Higher School of Economics» (NRU HSE), Prof. V.V. Dybskaya is devoted to
the optimization of supply chain areas relating to the distribution of goods. In this paper, an algorithm of distribution network design (or reengineering) is proposed. The algorithm comprises three following main stages:
1. analysis and evaluation of the existing logistics distribution network;
2. identification of key areas of logistics distribution network reorganization;
3. reorganization (or design) of the optimal logistics distribution network.

   The content of the paper differs by the deep elaboration of the trends of retail chains development in Russia: it is proved the need to develop appropriate logistics
infrastructure of supply chain of retail chains operators.

   Methodological approaches of creation a model for optimization of the supply chain network structure in the process of a new product launch as well as the methodology of planning customer orders satisfaction within the supply chain, including the processes of orders receipt, material selection, production scheduling and scheduling of equipment work, are presented in the articles of lecturers from St. Petersburg, Prof. V.S. Lukinskiy and A.V. Strimovskaya, and specialists of LOGIS company from Czech Republic, D. Konvichka and V.V.Solodovnikov.

   In our opinion, the great interest will cause the materials prepared by Prof. V.I. Sergeev and specialist of «P&G» company, V.S. Katalova. The paper investigates the following significant issue of Russian companies: how to assess the sensitivity of return on assets (ROA) to changes of logistics KPIs. The article proposes a method of determining the functions and coefficients of sensitivity. The suggested method is based on the dynamic model of assessing the impact of KPI on the financial results of the company and uses the appropriate information in the form of retrospective series of ROA / KPIs. The algorithm of assessment relied on the specified method is suggested. Moreover specific example of calculations of sensitivity functions, foundation of BSC and change of incentive system of logistics department employees of the company taking into account educed sensitivity of performance indicators is provided.  

   In current market conditions one of the latest issues in the SCM is to increase the stability and reliability of integrated supply chain. Among such characteristics as provided service level and outlay costs, stability and reliability are the most important parameters of supply chain functioning. However these characteristics are closely interrelated: while reduction in operating costs and increase in sales can be achieved by local optimization, stability serves as a criterion of the efficiency of the whole supply chain. Hence, the sustainable management of logistics risks is especially noteworthy, what can significantly improve the reliability and stability of supply chains. T.V. Levina, Senior Lecturer of Department of Logistics in NRU HSE, introduces the detailed classification of logistics risks, identifies main sources of risks in supply chain, studies main risks elimination methods addressed to improve sustainability of supply chains of business firms.

   As usual in our Journal we publish new findings in inventory management in supply chains as reflected in articles of Assistant Professors of Faculty of Logistics in NRU HSE, V.N. Penzev and I.P. Elyashevich, and their colleagues.

   The new educational academic year is getting on, and once again I would like to focus on the problem of qualified logisticians and managers in SCM training. Now days the preparation of Bachelors and Masters in this profile is made in the limited number of universities, among which the leader, of course, is the National Research University «Higher School of Economics».

   Qualified logisticians with the knowledge in the field of SCM are the critical resource for many Russian companies today. Given current extremely limited supply of qualified
logistics in the Russian labor market, it is very important to realize advanced training and retraining of graduates across the whole range of programs offered by International
Centre of Training in logistics (MCL) in NRU HSE – the particular leader among institutions of additional professional education in the field of logistics and SCM in Russia. It is important to note that the content of subjects the MBA programs and the retraining programs offered to the strategic direction of logistics qualifications and to the knowledge of advanced methods of decision-making in logistics and implementation of SCMtechnologies.

   A new admission in MCL in the autumn of 2014 in the comparison with the previous years has essential differences and provides new opportunities for students: to select
the most suitable training programs and to strengthen their practical orientation in accordance with the requirements of the business.

   The introduction of the intensive form of training program in additional higher education allows business schools to reduce significantly the number of class hours in MBA programs, retraining programs and programs of advanced training. Therefore MCL NRU HSE extends the range of programs for the coming new academic 2014/2015 year and reduces their price pro rata with the class hours (see web-site of MCL2). Potential students can be more flexible in choice of the appropriate program according to their level of training, time availability and financial opportunities.

   The program of Bachelor preparation in «Management of Logistics and Supply Chain» in a shorter period of time is a new program offered by MCL. Students of this program have the unique opportunity to obtain a bachelor's degree in two years (!) instead of the standard four ones.

   Another new program is in a series of professional advanced training programs – E-Learning in «Logistics and Supply Chain Management» using teleconferencing mode. This program allows expanding educational opportunities for students in other regions of the Russian Federation.
